International Social Studies Teacher

Hello! 你好! Buenas tardes!こんにちは!
My name is Ken Nomura and teaching history is my passion. I grew up as a Third Culture Kid, completed the IB program as a student, and obtained my education degree in Minnesota. I have worked in international schools in Taiwan and Mexico. My classes are dynamic, hands-on, and stimulating. Wherever I teach, I bring new perspectives into my classroom by opening students' eyes to culture, global issues, and the struggles of people around the world.
Why Do I Teach?
I teach because I believe education is the only long-term solution to any problem facing humanity.
I teach because I care about the future of our world, not only the future of human civilization, but the health of planet Earth as well.
I believe the act of teaching; a person teaching another person about values, various skills, and conscientious thinking on content is the only way in which any society can improve upon its social inequalities and work towards ensuring a collective happiness of its people. Education that teaches integrity as well as teaches children to love others unconditionally is critical in today's world.
I believe that it is our duty as educators to create better human beings in this world; this being our primary purpose above all.
Who Am I?
I am an educator.
I live and breathe social studies.
Besides teaching, my other passion is to rescue stray animals.
In my spare time, I enjoy being in nature, going mountain biking, practicing Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, wood working, farming, coaching, reading, surfing, and playing the guitar.
My Favorite Quotes
“You must be shapeless, formless, like water. When you pour water in a cup, it becomes the cup. When you pour water in a bottle, it becomes the bottle. When you pour water in a teapot, it becomes the teapot. Water can drip and it can crash. Become like water my friend.” - Bruce Lee
Educating the mind without educating the heart is no education at all.”
