Notable Lessons, Projects & Activities

8th Grade U.S. History - "Mayan Empire Building Game!"

For four classes, the classroom transformed into the Mayan world. Students were grouped into teams of four where each team represented a Mayan city-state. Teams built their empires through trade, cooperation, and waging war on other teams. Every student was engaged and excited throughout the game!

7th Grade World Geography - "Staple Foods Project and Making Bread!"

We looked at the world through the theme of "staple foods". While learning about the staple foods across cultures, students made bread in class, cooked a staple food dish from the country they researched , and brought the dish to class for a lovely potluck.

7th Grade - "Interview a Child Laborer Project"

A number of my students will probably grow up to be politicians, lawyers and business owners who will also be the decision-makers of the country. This project sought to better understand the lives of impoverished children in our community.

10th WWI Trench Diorama Project

How could students learn about the details of the trench warfare in WWI while having fun? The answer: WWI trench diorama project! Students were to research an actual historical location that was on the front line in the Great War. The project required them to design an architectural blueprint of the trench, describe the outcome of the battle, the different types of trench structure, which they included in their production.  Hands on, multiple intelligence learning and epic!

Model United Nations Academic Trips

As the head adviser of the MUN student club, I have guided the Secretariat members to host our own simulation event three years in a row. I have also taken groups of students to Saltillo, Queretaro and Monterrey for major conferences. Students were arranged in home stay families for housings, as they participated in rigorous debates among other international schools from Mexico.
